Ya’at' eeh,
WELCOME to the official Web site of the 21st Navajo Nation Council and the Legislative Branch of the Navajo Nation. This Web site is provided to you as a means of obtaining information about our government and about our Navajo Nation.
Our sovereign government is responsible for governing a nation that comprises approximately 250,000 members on the largest federally recognized Native American Nation in the United States. An estimated 180,000 Navajos reside on the Navajo reservation and our population continues to increase at a rapid rate. The median age on the Navajo Nation is 18 to 24 years of age.
The Navajo Nation is located on approximately 25,000 square miles or 17.5 million acres. Navajoland, also referred to as Diné Be Keyah, is situated within the exterior boundaries of the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah and occupies parts of 13 counties in those states. The Navajo Nation is larger than the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island combined. As the result of the magnitude of our Nation, our sovereign government is very complex. Our government is comprised of a three branch government: the Legislative Branch, the Executive Branch, and a Judicial Branch. The Legislative Branch is the Navajo Nation Council, which is the governing body of our nation and it consists of 88 elected council delegates that meet four times per year. Please explore our website and check back often for new updates.
